Character counts in KSD140! We believe character education is a learning process that enables students to understand and act on core ethical values such as respect, caring, citizenship, and responsibility for self and others.
Character Counts Program - Grades K-5
Throughout the year, school counselors teach guidance lessons designed to engage, excite, and reinforce the importance of being "kids with good character". Our faculty and staff focus on educating and modeling the six pillars of character every day of the school year. These pillars are respect, caring, trustworthiness, fairness, responsibility, and citizenship.
PBIS Program - Grades 6-8
Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) is a systematic approach that establishes and reinforces clear behavioral expectations. The goal of the program is to emphasize positive behaviors, decrease student discipline referrals, and promote the student’s commitment to his or her school. PBIS strategies support academic and social success for all students and help create a positive school climate.
KSD140 is committed to educating our students on how to participate in positive conflict resolution. Selected 4th - 5th grade students are given the opportunity to be trained and supervised peer mediators. Peer mediation is a wonderful way for our students to have hands-on experience while learning this important life skill.
PBIS Patriot Pride Club is a group of Grissom Middle School students who want to promote school spirit by following the 3 Be's: Be respectful, Be ready, Be a PATRIOT! Students attend school sport's events and band/choral concerts to encourage fellow Patriots. Patriot Pride members also brainstorm creative prizes for our weekly raffles, organize games for our assemblies, and think of innovative ways to enhance Grissom's positive environment.
