Review of School Safety and Security Protocols

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The devastating incident that occurred in Parkland, Florida is a stark reminder of the importance of our own safety and security protocols. Please know that we have many safeguards in place to protect your children. Along with exterior security cameras and restricted visitor access to our buildings, our schools have a Crisis Plan that is reviewed annually by local law enforcement officials.  We conduct regular drills, including building lockdowns, with students and staff. These practice drills allow us to evaluate our emergency operation plans and improve our response skills.

In the event of a school emergency, parents/guardians will be notified by our electronic messaging system and alerts will be posted on our website at ksd140.org. Please make sure your School Messenger account is up-to-date with your correct contact information and preferences (contactme.schoolmessenger.com).

If you have any questions regarding school safety, please contact your building principal or one of our Central Office Administrators. We would be happy to assist you in any way possible.

Julia L. Mikulich
Superintendent
Kirby School District 140
