| | Our third grade students extended their Social Studies curricular Communities Unit by correlating the past, present, and future of our community into a culminating field trip to the heart of Tinley Park. The field trip's objective for the students was to compare and contrast change over time.
Students ventured into history at the Tinley Park Historical Society Museum, the VVAC building that was the home of our 1st mayor, Henry Vogt, and the Old Columbia Hotel to learn about the past. They were amazed with the one classroom school house and the pen quills that were used for writing. They viewed our community working in its present day by climbing into the Train Station's clock Tower to see the electric trains of today and compare them to the steam engines of the late 1800's. The students also saw proposals and heard about the changes that will be coming to our community in the future.
