Millennium Cup Stacking Tournament 12/2011

In December, Millennium hosted the annual District 140 Cup Stacking Tournament. Over 350 students participated in this three-night event. Teams from Millennium, McAuliffe, Keller and Fernway were represented. Each of the five schools has a cup-stacking club. The club meets for six weeks. Kindergarten through fifth graders are taught the official competitions stacks which include 3-3-3, 3-6-3, Cycle, Double Cycle and Partner 3-6-3. Stackers practice to improve their times in each event. Students then qualified for the tournament by placing in the top ten of their school for a particular event. Not only do the students have fun with this sport, but it also works both sides of the brain. Based on the latest research, this type of activity has been shown to enhance academic performance.
