| | In November, Grissom Middle School held an assembly honoring veterans and first responders, while paying special tribute to 9/11. A “Veterans Wall” created by students and listing the names and photos of family members who have served our country and a piece of American history, a steel beam from the World Trade Center, was also on display and part of a presentation led by Tinley Park Fire Department Public Education Coordinator Bill Proper.
Mr. Proper and Grissom Middle School teacher Pauline Luttrell created the assembly to commemorate and teach students about the courage and sacrifice of our military personnel and first responders. Students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade wore red, white, and blue to show their patriotism.
“This assembly was about showing respect and gratitude for those who served our country,” said Luttrell. “It’s important for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes.”
