District 140 Students Shine at South Cook Math Bowl

Kirby School District 140 claimed nine individual medals and four team plaques at the annual South Cook Math Bowl held at Prairie State College on May 5 and 6.

"Quite an accomplishment, when you consider more than 180 contestants from 22 school districts competed each day in this year's event." said Gifted Resource teacher Nancy Farrington. "We did phenomenally both team-wise and individually."

The South Cook Math Bowl is an annual competition which has the best math students from elementary schools in the south and southwest suburbs vying against one another in both individual and team events. In District 140, the three students with the highest math test scores per grade are selected to participate in the contest, with two competing and one serving as an alternate. Farrington said the success of their math team is a direct result of the dedication, time, and effort the students and their teachers put forth preparing for the competition.

Individual Winners were Eric Armendariz -1st Place; Mohan Raval - 2nd Place; Eric Schaeflein - 2nd Place; Lexi Valdez - 2nd Place; Jane Folliard - 3rd Place; Josh Morris - 3rd Place; Tori Belotti - 6th Place; Akiko Inoshima - 6th Place; and Brendan Jennings - 6th Place.
