| | Grissom Middle School’s Art Club Participates in
Tinley Park’s Benches on the Avenue Project
For the past several years, Tinley Park’s Benches on the Avenue public art project has been a huge success in generating local resident and tourist interest, as well as promoting an appreciation of the arts. This year, Grissom Middle School’s Art Club was one of the twenty-one groups selected to create a handcrafted wooden bench with the theme “America the Beautiful.”
Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Art club members worked for eight weeks designing, sanding, priming, painting, and constructing their Independence Day design. The bench is complete with cheering crowds, aerial fireworks in the night sky, and a red, white, and blue color scheme.
“We were absolutely thrilled to have been chosen to participate in the Benches project for the second year in a row,” said Laura Garrity, Art Club Sponsor. “Our students really worked as a team to plan and execute their design.”
Members of Grissom Middle School Art Club include: Virina Akhnoukh, Angie Alburei, Saneth Cox, Claire Dolan, Christopher Gill, Rachel Gignac, Rachael Gromen, Kaileen Herman, Taylor Kassis, Mara Maday, Annmary Mathew, Lizzie O’Hearn, Annalyn Parks, Cailey Pietrzyk, Rebecca Rochacz, Emma Ruchala, Naif Salem, Leah Schissler, Jennifer Sierra, Gabrielle Strunka, Kim Tupas, Aubrey Zwartz, Ashely Bellario, Molly Blitstein, James Cecconi, Aiah Deeb, Jessica Delius, Lisa Fehrenbacher, Broderic Garren, Ghalia Ghusain, Deanna Koeckritz, Alah Nasan, Kimberly Nicholson, Danielle Paulsen, Janine Shalash, Samantha Tupas, Marco Viramontes and Andrew Vrtis.
Tinley Park’s Main Street Commission chose the theme “America the Beautiful” this year to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks. The benches, which will be on display May 12th through October 1st along Oak Park Avenue, will be incorporated into anniversary events being organized by the village and veterans group in Tinley Park.
