KSD 140’s Polar Plunge team took a dip in the frigid waters of Lake Leisure in Joliet on Saturday, March 10th. Led by educators Laura Cler, Kristy Baumgartner, and committee members from each of the District's seven schools, D140’s seventy-nine participants raised more than $27,000 for Special Olympics Illinois athletes.

According to the Special Olympics Illinois website, the Polar Plunge is sponsored by the Law Enforcement Torch Run and GEICO. Participants must raise $100 in donations from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for jumping into the icy waters. Overall, more than 515 hardy souls participated in the 2018 Joliet Polar Plunge and raised more than $115,000 for Special Olympics Illinois.
