Fernway Park Elementary School serves students in early childhood through fifth grade in Orland Park and Orland Hills, IL. School Hours

School starts at 7:55 a.m. Students should not be dropped off before 7:45 a.m. If tardy, please accompany your child to the office and check him/her in.

Our summer office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During the summer, we are closed for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Our offices are also closed on all Fridays in July and the first Friday in August.

Before and After School Care

Ivy League provides before and after-school care in all D140 elementary schools. Please visit the Ivy League website for information on pricing, hours, and registration.

Arrival & Dismissal

Illinois law prohibits cell phone use by drivers in school zones when students are present. In addition, smoking is not allowed on school property. For the safety of all, dogs and other pets should not accompany you when picking up your child, unless they remain in the car.

Fernway's Arrival and Dismissal 

Arrival and dismissal will operate much like the second half of last year. During construction, only Doors 5 and 8 will be used. Please review the map below.

Arrival

Staff supervision begins at 7:45 a.m., and classes begin at 7:55 a.m. Please do not drop off students early. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. must be signed in by an adult.

• Walkers and bus riders: Door 8
• Car riders A–G: Front lot off 88th Avenue; Door 8
• Car riders H–Z: O’Brien lot; supervised walkway to Door 5

The Door 5 walkway closes at 7:55 a.m. Late arrivals must use Door 8. Car riders should pull completely forward before allowing students to exit.

Dismissal

• Bus riders: Exit Door 8 and are escorted to buses.
• Walkers and bike riders: Exit Door 8. South walkers cross O’Brien with the crossing guard. North walkers are escorted along the bus lane after buses leave.
• Car riders A–G: Use the front lot’s three coned lanes.
• Car riders H–Z: Use the O’Brien lot’s five coned lanes. The lot will not open before 2:00 p.m.

When waiting along O’Brien, remain in your vehicle. Once inside the lot, pull completely forward, turn off your engine, and exit only when directed by staff. Students cannot be picked up from vehicles parked on the street, and families may not enter the construction area.

Car riders will be released after buses and walkers. Staff will dismiss lanes when all students are safely in their vehicles. If a lot is full, wait on 88th Avenue or O’Brien Drive until directed inside. Late pickups must report to the office.  

   Please expect  delays during the first few days. Fernway staff and the Orland Hills Police Department will assist with traffic. Your patience and cooperation will help these procedures quickly become routine. 

Suggested Walking Routes

Orland Hills
Students north of the school and west of 88th Avenue should walk to 88th Avenue and follow the sidewalk to school. 

Students south of the school should walk to 167th Street and cross with the crossing guard at O’Brien Drive into Fernway School.

Orland Park
Students north of the school should walk south to Leslie Drive and east to 88th Avenue and follow the sidewalk to school. 

Students south of 167th Street should walk to 88th Avenue to 167th Street and follow 88th Avenue north on the sidewalk to cross with the crossing guard at 167th Street and 88th Avenue and with the crossing guard at O’Brien Drive and 88th Avenue.

Students north of 167th Street should walk to 166th Street and proceed to 88th Avenue to cross with the crossing guard at the north end of the school, or walk to 167th Street and 88th Avenue and the crossing guard at O’Brien Drive and 88th Avenue.
