As part of their National Fire Prevention Week campaign, our local fire departments visit KSD 140 elementary schools in September and October to educate our students about all aspects of fire safety and prevention. This year's theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” The campaign emphasizes safe charging practices, including the use of manufacturer-approved cords, charging on hard surfaces, and removing batteries once fully charged to prevent fires from overheating or experiencing thermal runaway.

On Tuesday, September 30, Tinley Park Fire Department personnel visited Keller Elementary and provided students with an overview of the fire truck's equipment, firefighting protective clothing, and fire safety tips.
