KSD 140 eLearning Overview

students in class

What are eLearning Days?

eLearning Days are an opportunity for students and staff to learn and work remotely on days when school otherwise would have been canceled due to weather conditions or other emergency situations.

On eLearning Days, students will use their district-issued iPad to log in to Seesaw or Google Classroom to access Zoom links, schedules, and assignments for the day. They are required to check in for attendance and then attend virtual classes and complete assignments as a continuation of what they are learning in their classes.

Both elementary and middle school eLearning Days begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 1:00 p.m. Students and staff will engage in 2.5 hours of synchronous (live, web-based instruction) and 2.5 hours of asynchronous (independent learning activities) instruction throughout the day.

Specialized Instruction Needs

Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Section 504 Plans

Special Education teachers (case managers) will provide assignments based upon individual student needs.

For students with IEPs and 504 Plans, the accommodations built into those plans will apply to eLearning assignments. Alternative assignments may be substituted related to IEP goals. Students who have direct related services will engage in an activity provided by the related service personnel (OT, PT, Speech, etc.) on an eLearning day.

English Learners (EL) / Emergent Bilinguals

EL teachers will provide support for EL students in virtual classrooms and breakout rooms. Students will be supported on their assignments with reinforcement of the four domains of language acquisition: listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

eLearning Readiness

Students and staff at each school will review eLearning protocols and expectations during the first semester of the school year.

Internet Access

If your student is unable to access the internet on an eLearning Day due to an outage, families should contact us by completing the form at ksd140.org/contact-us. This will not be counted as a student absence, and the student will be expected to complete the eLearning assignments as directed by their teacher.

If your student does not have internet access at home, please contact us by completing the form at ksd140.org/contact-us. The District will get in touch with you to discuss other possible eLearning Day options which may include KSD140 issuing a family a hotspot or the family electing to use a paper copy of instructional activities.

Technology Support

Families may access technology support related to district-owned computing devices and software programs. Please visit ksd140.org/contact-us to access our Help Desk request form. When a form is submitted, a work ticket is created and assigned to technical staff who will be working throughout the day to address concerns.

What if my child is absent on an eLearning Day?

If a student is absent on an eLearning Day, please contact your school office by 8:30 a.m. and leave a message. Students will be marked absent, and the teacher will follow typical procedures utilized during in-person absences.
