Thanks to the Tinley Park Fire Department for providing the Fire Safety Smart program to third-graders in Kirby School District 140.

The Fire Safety Smart program is designed to engage third-grade students attending school in the Village of Tinley Park. A Tinley Park Fire Prevention Public Education Officer visits each classroom monthly from October through April. Each month has a specific topic designed to engage students and assist them in understanding hazards and how to prevent them. Lessons that students learn include:

  • Match and lighter safety
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
  • Fire behavior
  • Exit drills in the home
  • Electrical safety
  • Scalds and burns
  • Severe weather and emergency preparedness
