Second Quarter
2018-19 School Year

Good two-way communication between families and schools is necessary for your student's success.  Not surprisingly, research shows that the more parents and teachers share relevant information with each other about a student, the better equipped both will be to help that student achieve academically.

Parent/Teacher Conferences offer a unique opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and establish a cooperative home-school partnership. These one-on-one meetings are a great way for you to ask questions and review your student’s academic, social, and behavioral progress in school. This year, conferences will be held in all KSD 140 elementary and middle schools on Monday, November 19 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, November 20 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Beginning November 9th, you can schedule a parent/teacher conference by going to and inputting the entry code that was sent home with your student’s report card. (Entry codes can also be found in our website school news section beginning November 9th.)

If our conference dates don't fit into your schedule, please feel free to contact your child's teacher or team leader to schedule a conference on a different day. Contact information for District personnel can be found on our website at

With the weather turning colder, I would like to take this opportunity to review our school closure notification process. If Kirby School District 140 needs to close schools due to inclement weather, families will receive notification from SchoolMessenger, our electronic messaging system, and an alert will be posted on our District/School websites. KSD 140 also communicates school closure information through Facebook, Twitter, and the Emergency Closing Center (ECC).

Now would be a great time to make sure your SchoolMessenger contact information and preferences are up-to-date.  Directions for indicating your contact preferences, including whether you wish to receive notifications at additional phone numbers and through text or email, can be found on the SchoolMessenger Contact Manager website.

As we enter the holiday season, I would like to express my gratitude to the students, parents and staff members who enthusiastically contribute so much to our school each and every day.  Your ongoing support and commitment make our school a very special place to learn and achieve. Thank you and happy holidays!
