Each month, one of our seven schools takes center stage at the Board of Education meeting, sharing something unique about their building. This month, McAuliffe Elementary was in the spotlight. Principal Jim Hanley shared a video highlighting the Million Minute Reading Challenge and the many creative ways students are being encouraged to read for fun and growth.
Motivations and milestones include:
- Weekly Top Bean Trophy for the class with the most minutes
- Monthly prizes for top readers in each grade
- Raffle tickets for every 50 minutes read (end-of-year winners get to pour beans on Mr. Hanley!)
The challenge is designed not only to encourage daily reading but also to bring the school community together around a shared goal. With every book, story, and page, McAuliffe students are proving that small habits can lead to something truly extraordinary.
