Our Mission

The Kirby Educational Foundation (KEF) is a partnership between community members, parent volunteers, and school personnel focused on providing resources and assistance to District families and students in need.

Working collaboratively, we believe this partnership can eliminate barriers to learning, support students’ physical and emotional well-being, and strengthen academic performance.

How It All Began

It wasn't lost on leaders of the Kirby Paraeducators Association (KPEA) when more and more students began coming to school seemingly in need of new clothing, warm coats, a winter hat, gloves or maybe even a square meal. So when the KPEA council got together for an association meeting in September of 2010, they decided as a union to do what they could to help. They created the Cookie Jar Project. About once a month at each of the District’s seven schools, paraeducators organized a Cookie Jar day. Local association members, as well as some teachers and administrators, baked and provided cookies, muffins, pastries and other treats in the employee lunch and break areas. A cookie jar was placed on the table and those who enjoyed the treats were asked to make small donations. Those donations were then used to support students and/or families that were identified as having a specific need.

Little by little, what began as one simple good idea, has now grown into the KSD 140 Foundation, a program of great pride and accomplishment for KPEA members within Kirby School District 140.

The 140 for 140 Employee Giving Campaign

The 140 for 140 employee giving campaign encourages District employees to join together to collectively support the work of the Kirby Educational Foundation. This initiative provides the opportunity for our staff to voluntarily contribute $1.40 from each of their paychecks throughout the year. All proceeds are donated to the Kirby Educational Foundation. Employee contributions allow the KEF to have an even greater impact on students and families in District 140.
