Congratulations to District 140’s new Spelling Bee Champion, Jasmine C., an eighth-grader from Grissom Middle School, who clinched the victory with the word “Azores.” Fifth-grader Erin T. from Fernway Park Elementary School came in a close second. Third-place honors went to Millennium Elementary's fifth-grader Chloe B.

Jasmine now advances to the 13th Annual Suburban Cook County ISC Scripps Spelling Bee on March 8, where she will represent D140 in the competition.

“All of our competitors should be congratulated for their hard work and dedication,” said GATE Resource Teacher Nicole Collins. “They each did a wonderful job representing their home school.”
Competing in the spell-off were the top two building-level representatives from each of the District’s seven schools - a total of 14 competitors from grades four through eight. The competition was coordinated by D140 GATE teachers Kate Robinson and Nicole Collins.

Runners-up included: Zackary S. and Jack F. from Bannes Elementary; Noah A. from Fernway Park Elementary; Sama D. and Carson B. from Keller Elementary; Jiro C. and Allen M. from McAuliffe Elementary; Sereen A. from Millennium Elementary; Gabriella G. from Grissom Middle School; Isabella P. and Ava G. from Prairie View Middle School.

Congratulations to all!
