School Safety Message from Interim Superintendent Byrne

The District 140 community was shocked and saddened to learn of the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, staff, and families who have been impacted by this tragic event.

This devastating incident is a stark reminder of the importance of our own safety and security protocols. Please know that we are vigilant and proactive regarding our student's safety and have clear plans and procedures to deal with emergencies. Along with exterior security cameras and restricted visitor access to our buildings, our schools have a crisis plan reviewed annually by local law enforcement officials. We regularly practice our safety procedures with students and staff through discussions, emergency exercises, and drills.

With safety procedures and a crisis plan in place, we continue to encourage vigilance in our schools and community. By far, the most effective safety measure we can implement is to work together proactively. I am asking you to embrace the “see something, say something” message and encourage you to notify the police department or our school offices if you see anything out of the ordinary.

Our District's highest priority is the safety of our students, and we are committed to maintaining a secure learning environment. If you have any questions or concerns regarding school safety, please contact your building principal or our Central Office administration. We are here to assist you in any way possible.

Sincerely,
Michael J. Byrne, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent
Kirby School District 140
