Prairie View Student Recognized in Patriot Pen Essay Contest

Prairie View Student proudly smiles in front of lockers for being recognized as the Patriot Pen Essay Contest winner

Congratulations to sixth-grader Layla S., one of six winners selected from eight participating schools in the Patriot Pen Essay Contest, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

The contest encourages middle school students to reflect on patriotism and civic responsibility through writing. At Prairie View, all sixth-grade Honors students and seventh-grade students participated by writing a 300–400-word essay responding to this year’s theme, “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?”

Layla and the other winners will be honored at a dinner this Saturday. Thank you to VFW Post 2791 for supporting student voice and civic engagement.
